39´ LANDFALL PILOTHOUSE 1978

$89,000.00

Description

THREE QUARTER TIME,

Listed for sale, is a Landfall 39 pilothouse sailboat designed by Ron Amy. She was built in 1978 in the Sino American yard in Taiwan. For the remainder of the listing I will refer to her as TQT for brevity. TQT is a true blue water cruising vessel with pedigree of safety and stability. She has taken us from the wilds of the Last Frontier of Alaska, the Fjords, Sounds, Gulf and inside Passage, offshore sailing, and calm tropical retreats.
TQT is just completing a refit in Mazatlan Mexico. The refit includes a complete down-to-fiberglass removal of paint with dings, dents, and scratches addressed. All through-holes have been pulled, cleaned, and inspected before reinstallation. The bottom has been barrier-coated, primed, and bottom paint. The rudder and prop have been inspected, as well as the external bonding system. From the water line up, all of the gel coat has been replaced with primer and two-part epoxy paint. TQT was originally built with teak decks; she had them removed years ago. The top deck was taken down to glass and inspected with no issue. Two-part epoxy paint and awl grip paint were freshly lald over new primer. All deck fittings have been removed and rebedded. The teak decks were removed, but all accent pieces including rub rails and toe rails remain. This has helped TQT retain her classic lines and beauty. All of the external teak has been taken down to bare wood and brought back to brilliance with Cetol Natural. The Bow sprit has been removed, and a new custom Bow sprit has been built and installed. The custom sprit resembles the old one that lasted 42 years. She now sports a beefier lower support, and a lighter upper rail, which loses some of the original weight. There have been some additional attachments added as well. These allow for the current roller-furling system to work efficiently. The original builder had no concept of a future roller furled sail option. Now the vessel can support a spinnaker, if the new owner wishes. The standing riging has been gone through and tuned.
The inside of TQT sports beautiful hand carved teak from bow to stern. All teaks has been taken down to bare wood. Special care has been taken to make sure the hand carved doors and other areas have not lost detail. The floors have been sanded with dents and dings being addressed. All has been redone in gloss varnish, or epoxy, depending on application. All internal bonding wires have been gone through and replaced as necessary. The engine has been attended to with preventative maintenance actions that include replacing injectors and glow plugs.
The following are the specs on TQT. She is a full keel and cutter rigged flush-deck pilot house model, however she is currently fitted for sloop sailing with her staysail options intact. All sails, except the spare jib, are new as of 2016. The Genoa is 130 roller furled. The staysail is the original cut, and still hank on. The Main has been updated to a full batten system. The full battens allow for a higher point of sail. The spare jib is older, however it is rarely used and is in like new condition. It is rarely used as it has no sun protection installed.
TQT has a 65 HP marinized Nissan-Chrysler diesel engine. The engine was replaced in 2017, it is identical to the one that was removed. The replacement engine had 2081 hours. We had the engine inspected and all new parts installed. The flex plate, exhaust riser, alternator, starter, etc. were replaced. We have put approximately 600 hours on her since the install. As previously mentioned, she has been gone through and tuned up as of February 2020.
The electronics package on TQT was updated in 2016. All components are Raymarine. The Multifunction display, Digital Radar and Depth sounder/Fish finder are the newest parts of the system. The MFD is installed at the inside-steering-station. We personally use an Ipad, via Wifi, to the outside steering station. TQT has hydraulic steering to accommodate the inside and outside helms talking to each other. This is a passive system that requires very little attention and is extremely reliable. Additionally the system does not overwork the installed autopilot. This allows the autopilot to keep up in almost any sea state. The autopilot installed also has a hand held controller, allowing one to steer the vessel from anywhere aboard. The sail instruments are virtually bulletproof. They are legacy equipment and in excellent shape mounted outside within view of the outside pilot station. The depth sounder will sound to 999’ at the outside station, and 1200’ plus on the MFD. While a fish finder on a sailboat sounds peculiar, it allows one to determine the bottom when setting the hook. It is very helpful in unfamiliar anchorages.
The Electrical system is very simple, and this vessel is low power consuming. It currently has two 8D lead acid batteries that were replaced in 2016. A third battery is installed for start. There is a charger installed for these batteries. Additionally she sports a single 100 W flexible solar panel, with charger controller, that is capable of significant expansion if one prefers. With the updated electronics, we have found we never need any additional power. However, she has a Honda 2000 generator aboard that can be plugged in directly through the shore power cable outlet, if the need arises.
The refrigeration, heat and stove, are all propane driven. This is one of the reasons why a larger battery bank is unnecessary. Two full size portable propane tanks are located in the aft starboard lazarette. The stove is gimbaled, with three burners and an oven. The heater is a Dickenson wall mounted unit. The refrigerator is a Norcold 120/ propane upright with icebox.
The water heater is a 5 or 6 gallon 120 V engine-driven heat exchange. However we removed this item since it was nonfunctioning. We apologize, and the vessel price accommodates the lack of this item.
There are two heads. The forward head is in a hideaway-cabinet in the V berth cabin. This head is manual. The other head is in the aft stateroom. That head is electric.
The vessel has for cabins. The v berth is a single bed or garage, with storage underneath the bed and a large locker with over/under storage. A small sink with running water and the before-mentioned head. The mid cabin has two pull-out beds that make for great seating or sleeping. There is plenty of storage, with two forward-lockers with over/under storage. There is additional storage port and starboard, along both beds. The pilot house cabin has the helm and electronics. Engine access is directly under the pilot house floor. It features a wrap-around settee with a double-leafed table. The heater, standup refrigerator, and stove are located here, as well as a double freshwater sink with tons of storage, and counter space. In addition, there is a television and DVD player. The TV can accommodate all current forms of peripheral entertainment options. In the pilot cabin are the VHF and FM radios. The Aft cabin has a double bed that has an actual custom cut mattress. It also features a standup shower and freshwater sink in the aft berth. There is a Ram mount for a laptop or iPad. The SSB is also located in this area.
The standing rigging has been inspected annually and has no identified problems. She has primary, secondary, and running stays fixed aft, staysail and forward stays. She was last tuned in February 2020. The running rigging has both new and old lines. No current are needed. The Spinnaker pole is mast mounted.
The winches are mast mounted and pedestal mounted at the aft steering station.
All Paint and Wood have been stripped and refinished in a refit from December 2019 through February 2020.
A custom Bowsprit was installed in January 2020
The dinghy is a lightweight Walker Bay 10’ sailing dinghy that includes sails, removable rudder, and dagger board, oars and a 2.3 HP Honda engine. She has lots of options to get you around and additionally is just fun for playing around in the anchorages.
